• California Blend Vegetables Not Grown in California?

I found, on youtube, a clip of an older news story about Whole Foods organics being from China rather than being grown locally, which seems to go against the mantra of Whole Foods' advertising, as they are known to push organically grown and local products.

According to Wikipedia, "Whole Foods Market Inc. is an American supermarket chain exclusively featuring foods without artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners, and hydrogenated fats."

I get the importance of whether vegetables in China can be truly organic, BUT - the ignorance surrounding "California Blend" is hilarious and sad all at the same time. One customer interviewed about this states, "If they're going to put California on the label, then they shouldn't put China in fine print on the label in the back."

    For crying out loud...

"California Blend" is the name of the vegetable mixture itself - it does NOT mean that the vegetables are grown in California! It is simply the name of a combination of broccoli florets, carrots, and cauliflower.

As a side note, and in like manner, "Normandy Blend" - does not mean the vegetables were grown in France, either. It is a blend of broccoli florets, cauliflower, carrots, yellow squash slices, and zucchini squash slices.

So if you buy "California Blend" (or "Normandy Blend") vegetables and the package says "product of China" (or "Product of Mexico") in fine print, there is no need to panic! Simply go to your safe space until you stop trembling - breathe deeply - it's okay.

Feeling better? Good - now go enroll in a cooking class somewhere so you can learn about these things.
